Description Carl 2008-08-07 23:06:31 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I can't move the plasmoids on my desktop (but i can change the size or rotate them). when i try to move a plasmoid i can see it "follow" my mouse pointer but when i release the button it remains at its location.
Moreover (it may be related) : when i press ctrl+F12 to get the dashboard, my desktop plasmoids don't come up, still i can add other plasmoids on my dashboard but when i quit the dashboard they don't appear on the desktop ! The strange thing is i can move plasmoids on the dashboard (but of course not the "desktop ones" which are unreachable).

I recorded these behaviors in an ogg screencast (2.1 MB) available here : http://dl.free.fr/qxuiMDyZP

btw, the problem is the same with the "default plasma config" (i deleted ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma* and restarted plasma, it didn't change anything).
Comment 1 Carl 2008-08-17 01:33:19 UTC
the problem seems to be related to my tv-output.
My graphic card (nvidia 6600 GT) is configured as "twinview clone".
when it's connected to my TV (most of the time), i have the problem reported on this bug report. when i unplug the cable from my TV, plasma acts normally.
still i don't know why the problems happens (clone, same resolution...)

- The problem only exists when a Xinerama implementation is enabled.
- Dragging a plasmoid works but when it's released it appears somewhere else (Not always the old position).
- When moving them between screens they disappear completely or duplicate themselves.
- After a move sometimes you cannot click them anymore (Displayed position isn't the correct one?)
- When using the dashboard the plasmoids appear in a different position again

(Should have mentioned, my problems occur in trunk--the old 4.1.0 handling worked fine)
Comment 4 Rasmus Steinke 2008-08-25 15:30:50 UTC
I can confirm this bug - only happens with tvout enabled. It does work fine with nv driver tho (which doesnt support tvout)

But i am using 4.1 and it still happens.
Comment 5 Rasmus Steinke 2008-08-25 15:31:48 UTC
I should say: i am using vanilla kde4 packages on arch linux
Comment 6 Ian Smith 2008-12-06 19:54:13 UTC
I am getting the same problem on 4.2 Beta, but as far as I can tell, I don't have tvout enabled.

For me also, this problem only happens with folders. Other plasmoids move.

My OS is openSuse 11.0
I'm using the latest nvidia beta 1.80.11.

I am having this problem on a 4.2 (stable) machine with an xinerama setup. Very frustrating. All I want is for them to stay where I put them. I also found that it does not happen on the primary monitor. Unlike #2 on my machine they do not duplicate themselves when I try to move them between displays but they do disappear when I try this. This was working correctly in 4.1.4 so it is a regression.
Comment 8 Hal V. Engel 2009-02-15 21:04:14 UTC
After installing Qt 4.5_rc1 and some slightly newer KDE 4.2 packages this problem went away on my machine. I am not sure which packages fixed the problem.
Comment 9 Dario Andres 2009-07-18 21:37:43 UTC
Is this still happening with a current KDE and Qt version? (KDE4.2.4/4.3rc + Qt4.5.2+) ? Thanks
Comment 10 Hal V. Engel 2009-07-18 22:04:44 UTC
No it is not.
Comment 11 Dario Andres 2009-07-18 23:22:36 UTC
If anyone else can confirm this I'm going to close as WORKSFORME: THanks
Comment 12 lucas 2009-07-19 03:59:27 UTC
The only thing I can reproduce from comment #2 is that plasmoids disappear when dragging between screens in trunk. They no longer seem to reproduce, they are just hidden from view and you are forced to delete them from the "add widget" window.

Close this a as working, the other bug mentioned is already reported
