Version: 1.2.9 (using KDE 3.5.9) Installed from: Gentoo Packages Compiler: gcc 4.3.1 Gentoo 4.3.1-r1 p1.1 OS: Linux While experiencing continues crashes due to bug #168316, I also noticed that Kontact lost the email I was currently editing. After the first crashes the email was still present and got opened when restarting Kontact, but when I was finished editing the mailinglist, it was simply gone. I can not exactly tell how many continuous crashes are required to make Kontact loose that email. This is highly annoying to the user, who is likely to be already upset by the preceeding crashes.

Useful command to get your email back: grep -ab "SOME TEXT YOU WROTE" /dev/DISK #remember the OFFSET it outputs dd bs=1 skip=OFFSET count=APPROX_LENGTH if=/dev/DISK
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present? If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kontact (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
