Description Ambroz Bizjak 2008-07-28 21:25:21 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

Recently the default color theme of Konsole was changed to "Dark Pastels". I think the new default theme is not appropriate because is has very low contrasts - both light and color contrasts. In particular, the default text color is light gray and the default background is dark gray. The intensity of colors is also lowered. The lack of contrast is even more apparent because of the gray window border.
I think the previous "Linux Colors" theme is more appropriate for being a default one because it has greater contrast and fits in the default KDE style more nicely.

I think "Linux Colors" is more appropriate for a default because, ah... it's what Linux consoles use? Not to mention xterm (well, almost, but IMO whoever made the default bg white should be shot ;-)), and for that matter practically every other terminal-like program.
Comment 2 Michael 2008-07-30 18:48:27 UTC
Yeah, that was one of the things i instantly changed after installing konsole. I would go for "linux colors" as the default, too.

The fallback has been changed to Linux a few months. The default Shell.profile has DarkPastels.

   * trunk/KDE/kdebase/apps/konsole/src/Profile.cpp: Changed default
color scheme to Dark Pastels (based on Jani Nurminen's Zenburn
for Vim). This is an experimental change - I will either keep or
revert pending feedback. I think it is more comfortable to work
with for long periods vs. the default grey text / black
     background.

Robert, no other terminal emulator uses such a low-contrast theme by default. Can you please change Konsole's default theme?

P.S. I'm taking the liberty of CC'ing you. Since you're the one who made Dark Pastels default, you can undo it. :)

I thought I had commented on this one, already... Seems I did not.

Strong agree on a high-contrast default theme. I find that working on a shell where you are not able to easily discern stuff makes the eyes very tired.
While I can easily change the theme, I found out that my girlfriend used Konsole, for the limited use of it she has, with the lower-contrast one on one of our computers. She did _not_ like it, but did not think of trying to change it, nor did she complain to me.

Also, but this should be a separate report, a default font of Terminus would be a good idea for the same reason.
