Description Matthew Schnee 2008-07-28 17:23:01 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.98)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

KDE4.1RC1

Description of Setup:
Two video cards, three monitors. Two monitors are configured in X with Twinview, the third was now enabled in xorg.conf. Under this configuration, the two primary display monitors work as expected, desktop resolution is 3200x1200. Kwin recognizes the two monitors and can configure destkop settings for each independantly.

Adding a second "screen" to the xorg.conf for the second card and third monitor breaks this. Xinerama is not used (breaks composite extensions and is unnecessary), as this window is used primarily to display information for debugging a server enviroment (think tail and awk on multiple files and device nodes).

This setup breaks the desktops. The desktop widget itself is confined to what appears to be an 800x600 area on the first (left) monitor. Windows can be created and moved in the rest of the area on the primary displays, however the "blank area" does not accept and mouse inputs. It is, in effect, empty space.

Unfortunately non-Xinerama multi-monitor setups are currently not supported by KDE 4 so there will be no quick fix for this. There are also related X/Qt bugs that are preventing it's addition.

See bug 153581 as well.
