Version: kde4daily r838207 (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux To display hidden files / directories in dolphin with activated "Folders" panel the user needs to: 1. Activate the checkbox "Show Hidden files" in the "View" submenu of the main menu. 2. Right-click the folder panel and select "Show Hidden files" again. To deactivate the displaying of these files the user needs to uncheck both checkboxes, too. Also the shortcut (Alt+.) does not toggle the behavior in the folders panel. This should be synced, i.e. the menu entry and shortcut should toggle the displaying in both main view and folder panel. The addtional option for the folders panel should be removed then. I think the user either wants to see hidden files in both views or doesn't want to see them at all. This would also fix the problem of the folders panel no longer being synced with the main view when the user activated displaying only for the main view. Currently the folders panel displays the last "visible" folder until the main view shows another dir without hidden dir in the path again. I observed this behaviour using dolphin from the kde4daily image updated to revision 838207.
Thanks for your input, but I'm not sure whether this is really a good behavior... Am I right with my guess that you activated "[x] Use common view properties for all folders"? In this case I think it would be useful, but for the default settings where each directory can have their custom view properties (and hence a custom setting whether hidden files are shown) this would mean that the Places Panel might show all hidden directories when entering a folder with e.g. just one hidden text-document.
Ah, I meant of course "Folders Panel" not "Places Panel"...
Hi Peter, yes that's right. I'm using the same view properties for all folders. I was opening this issue back then because I usually don't need to see dot files. But when I need them, then usually I need to navigate into "dot folders" and would like to see them in the folder panel as well. For example when I need to check some config file under ~/.config. Also I do a lot of Java development with maven, which stores libraries in deeply nested paths within ~/.m2/repository In these cases it is cumbersome to change both the folder panel and the main panel to display the dot files (and back later). Therefore it would be really nice if I only had to press F8 once.
OK, thanks for clarification!
