Description Mirek Mieszczak 2008-07-20 20:04:11 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.2.5
OS: Linux

In xorg-x11 v 7.2 there is hotplug function available, and it works well with kde, except one thing.

I personally use lefthanded mouse, so to remap mouse buttons kde uses xmodmap during initialization, and this leads into the problems.
When I plug the mouse after starting up of the kde, or if I replug the mouse when stay logged, or if I suspend system, and restore it to normal work, my mouse lose its button settings, and mouse become right handed mouse. This is really anonying.

I suppose that the same problem would occur for usb keyboards (but haven't tried).

I also experience this bug with input hotplug, but for mouse speed settings. And my mouse loose its settings quite often, because it is bluetooth and X11 uses HAL.

Is this a bug valid even for KDE 3.5.10 or KDE 4?
Comment 3 Thorsten Schnebeck 2009-03-25 09:42:19 UTC
I think this is valid for KDE 4.x

I'm also using a left-hand mouse setup. The set-up is done in "settings"
But the mouse is connectet to a monitor usb-hub. When I switch off the monitor (and its hub) but leave the KDE session still open and later switch it on again I get a right-hand mouse setup.

So I think, kded/solid should listen if an already configurered input device is unplugged and should reconfigure when its replugged again.

Bye

  Thorsten
