Description Benno Dielmann 2008-07-20 03:11:27 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.98)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Previews for pdf files don't show up. There's just the pdf-mimetype icon.
Comment 1 Peter Penz 2008-07-20 03:25:36 UTC
I cannot reproduce this issue. Did you check whether the PDF-size might be greater than the maximum preview size?

I can still reproduce this bug on KDE 4.1.1. Maximum preview size is set to 5 MB; all pdfs are less. Maybe my KDE installation (Kubuntu 8.04 packages) is broken... Where could I look for a solution?

I'd suggest using a Kubuntu-specific user forum to know whether it is a general problem in Kubuntu or only a local issue. The previews are handled by the KDE libraries and applications can offer a preview plugin. As I assume that you've installed Okular, there should also be available such a preview plugin. So honestly speaking I don't know what might be the root cause :-(

FYI, KPDF and Okular never provided a preview plugin themselves.

Ah, thanks - I was not aware about this.

Where does the preview plugin come from? Which component could be the culprit for my problem?

I had this problem at office and not at home. I found that the package kdegraphics-strigi-plugins was missing. Installing this package brought the pdf preview dolphin at last !

Thanks Guillaume for the update, I've set the issue to WORKSFORME. Benno: if installing the package still does not work, please let us know.
Comment 9 Benno Dielmann 2008-11-20 17:50:18 UTC
I just checked and switched on previews - pdf preview is working now for me. Probably since I updated to Kubuntu 8.10... Yes, and kdegraphics-strigi-plugins is installed, too.

So this was probably a Kubuntu issue (KDE 4.1 packages for kubuntu 8.04), so I marked the bug as CLOSED. Thanks everybody for spending time on this.
