Description René Krell 2008-07-18 18:02:24 UTC
Version:           0.1 (using Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux

In KDE3 there was the possibility to place for instance a link to a website on the desktop and give this a different title than the filename. Not so with Plasma even in KDE 4.1 RC1: The location and the filename are one and the same, trying to change the icon title over the context menu "Icon settings" - tab "General" results in renaming the file. Thus, if the user has no permission to change the referred file the title is unchangeable at all. Shouldn't this work another way - with divided title and file name? Not sure whether this is a bug or a feature (wish).

I don't see this as a duplicate.

I suggest that the reporter should reopen it as a WISHLIST issue.

The problem is that desktop file contains:

Name=<URL>

This can be changed by opening the desktop file in a text editor.

IIUC, the reporter would like to be able to change this using the: "Properties" dialog.
