Description Helge Hielscher 2008-07-15 18:31:05 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

First thank you for implementing the trim borders option.

In a book/magazine with facing pages the left and right page often have the same size and sometimes even share the content (e.g. picture over both pages).
With "trim borders" on, sometimes left and right page get cut off differently by a small amount.
Please trim both pages by the same amount to unify the look.

There is simply no way to know that the two pages in each row of the "facing mode" have the same content, not even whether they could be "similar".
Comment 2 Helge Hielscher 2008-08-05 14:59:52 UTC
The request is to adjust the borders similar (at least the vertical borders) if the page sizes of the left and right page are the same or about the same.
The case of a picture over two pages is an example where the proposal would give better results than the current solution.

And how can you determine whether the content is the same in both the pages on the left and on the right? You are assuming it is, but you cannot, really.

How is it important if the content is the same?
What speaks against trimming the facing right and left page by the same amount. To trim one page more than the other does not save any space in this view, does it?

Adn again, you are assuming the documents are all regular, symmetric and cutting the borders on left/right pages in facing modes produces the same result for any document.
This is simply not true, and you are kindly invited to drop this assumption.

Would you mind to give an example where my assumptions do not work? Also an example where the advantage I propose turns into a disadvantage would be highly welcome?

Are the devs planning to implement this proposal or should it be marked as WONTFIX per #5?

It's a respectable request (it is categorized as wish not as bug), in a world of infinite manpower behind okular we would consider it, in the real world probably won't be implemented unless someone shows up with a patch

It seems to me that most documents have standard margins set for the document, and that this is a very reasonable request. I for one want a side by side page view in presentation mode, and the ability to go forward and backward in the document by simply touching the screen. Computers are becoming more tablet like and easy touch screen navigation is sorely needed.
