Description Thorsten Staerk 2008-07-15 09:09:12 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.83)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

When I fill out a textarea field with konqueror, sometimes, some characters suddenly turn red with no information why.

It looks like you have automatic spell checking enabled - Konqueror marks all words which are not in its (probably English) dictionary in red. If you don't want Konqueror to check spelling, try to disable spell-checking (right click on the text area, disable "Auto Spell Check").

It worries me that the spell check turns on after about 5 minutes. That is not intuitive.

@comment #3: If I understand you correctly, the words in the textarea are black at first and turn red after 5 minutes? I cannot reproduce this with Konqueror 4.1: Unknown words are marked instantly. Very long texts (complex Wikipedia articles) take 1-2 seconds to get checked.

Can you try the new KDE 4.2 beta 1 in order to test if the problem is still valid?
Comment 7 Thorsten Staerk 2008-11-27 20:35:03 UTC
Still valid for KDE from yesterday.

Dear user,

KHTML (and KJS) was a long time more or less unmaintained and got removed in KF6.

Please migrate to use a QWebEngine based HTML component.

We will do no further fixes or improvements to the KF5 branches of these components beside important security fixes.

For security issues, please see:

https://kde.org/info/security/

Sorry that we did not fix this issue during the life-time of KHTML.

Greetings
Christoph Cullmann
