Version: (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources On Firefox 3 drags of website texts/images Kwin may completly freeze using a hundred percert of the CPU. Sometimes it will recover itself, but most not. The bug doesn't happen all the time PS: i`m using the proprietary nvidia driver.
same here...intel driver 2.3, xorg 7.2/ 7.3rc, kernel 2.6.24, kde trunk
problem not verified on a dell m1330 with a intel video card, so probably a (another) nvidia issue
ps to previous message: desktop effects not enabled
Can you attach to the stuck kwin and provide a backtrace (http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/Debugging_with_GDB#Attaching_gdb_to_already_running_applications).
Created attachment 26373 [details] Backtrace from frozen kwin Kwin froze after selecting and dragging text in firefox.
That backtrace does not suggest kwin is stuck. Please try to get one that looks differently.
I am running Firefox 3.1a2 and the dragging of text is much much smoother so either this is a Firefox bug or it is a kwin bug which is no longer triggered by the latest Firefox.
think so mike. marked as invalid
I have the same issue with KDE 4.2.0 on OpenSUSE 11.1 using Firefox 3.0.5 and a ATI X700 mobility with 9.1 fglrx drivers. Kwin doesn't crash but it disable the desktop effects. Is this a Firefox issue ?
