Description Bassio 2008-06-28 19:46:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.83)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Attached is a screenshot from Dolphin.

Take care of the highlighted icon.

Notice the unnecessary (and somehow ugly) dotted box around the name of the file.

If the thing is already highlighted in blue, then there is no need to add a textbox, which also looks better when you use other styles like klearlook which has a finer and more elegant box.

The style Clearlook takes notice of this issue, and does not issue this dotted box when there is a blue halo and the look is the best of all.

And when the window is not in focus, Oxygen does a good job by highlighting the name (with the blue halo naturally not present) .. this is good. Although I see that a finer line width may be used to get a prettier look like other styles.

This could be a VGA issue, but still posting this if Oxygen can do something.

@Peter: isn't this wanted?
Comment 3 Peter Penz 2008-06-28 20:31:56 UTC
@Finex: This is wanted. It shows the keyboard focus and makes sense when e. g. selecting several items to know where the keyboard focus is. However I'm not happy with the current look of the focus indication (dotted line).

I discussed this already with Casper and provided a patch, but the problem is to find a solution that works with all corner cases (see bug #154054).

Apologies, yes indeed we need the indicator when selecting multiple items. It slipped my mind. But the look is not very beautiful; and in other styles, it is much more natural that I forgot that it is almost there, and yet it sits there indicating the keyboard focus.

The Clearlooks almost does this but with a finer and more aesthetically appealing line.

What we need now is a more chic line. :)

Are you working on that Peter?

And a mod can rename the inappropriately-named bug to .. keyboard focus is not beautiful in Oxygen in Dolphin.

However, the question is now: is this something only in Dolphin, or is it more generalized?

No, it's a general issue and I trust the Oxygen team here :-)

See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165216

for a reason why we can't remove the focus rect.

As for the look. This is almost as difficult. We did try for a long time, but as it have to work under many different kids of conditions, we have to do it like it is. And anyway we always close bugs only asking for looks.

So closing as invalid.
