I cannot see at all how this is a duplicate. Those are not options at all. ad.1) vote for that (opensuse version of KDE solved this nicely) ad.2) worksforme
uh, you are right. Guess I copy+pasted the wrong bug-id :-/
This problem (application searching was in 3.5.9) persist in Qt: 4.4.0 KDE: 4.00.83 (KDE 4.0.83 (KDE 4.1 Beta2) "release 1.2" openSUSE 11 64-bit
Created attachment 26469 [details] KDE 3.5.x Classic style I can't believe nobody is missing the search menu feature in the KDE's 4 classic style
Created attachment 26470 [details] KDE 4.1 suports search (filtering?) only for Kickoff style :?(
> I can't believe nobody is missing the search menu feature in the KDE's 4 > classic style For your information, the search in the KDE 3 menu is an OpenSUSE addon. The vanilla K-menu in KDE 3 has no search.
Re: Comment #7 From Pino Thanks. In this case what is better - create bug/wish in the Novell's bugzilla or hope that is useful feature will implemented to KDE4.x soon?
I would like to see both features implemented in KDE4 directly (not by the distros). The "right click" -> "add to desktop/panel" is already implemented for kicker menu style. However, it is already possible to create destop/panel icons (widgets) using drag and drop.
I also like to see (make it optional per confiration) the "actions"-section with "run command" (the alt-f2-thing)
Btw. if KDE is GPL, then opensuse addition is GPL too, right? So why not just copy the search feature from Suse? It would be all in GPL-spirit -- I don't think there is a need for reinventing the wheel.
Because the SuSE patch is for search for KDE3's menu. :P

Personally I am missing the following features on classic menu: --objective:-- 1. In KDE 3.5 I was able to right-click some menu item and get related context menu. The context menu actually contained only the "Edit Item..." item, but anyway that was handy (especially for assigning/unassigning hotkeys to applications). In KDE 4, when I right-click some item, it acts as left-click (i.e runs app), which is a bit unexpected. 2. In KDE 3.5 there was something like search: I was able to type “ko” in it, and it underlined the letters “ko” in items (e.g. kopete, konqueror, etc), and I was able to move between them with with Up/Down. Probably that was distribution-specific (from comments above I see that SUSE users had another kind of search), but at least any kind of search would be nice. --subjective:-- 3. Somewhy I miss the logo band at the left side of the menu. Probably it made the menu more friendly/readable, that menu items appeared not at very left of the screen. 4. I don't remember whether it was present KDE3 or maybe I saw it in Windows, but it's good idea to look widget button like "pressed" while the menu is open. The 1-2-3-4 are in order of priority for me (i.e. "1" is more priority, "4" less priority).
Also to the search comments . I see the new turtle menu (yes thats my nick for it because it is way to slow like taking the long scenic route ). I love the look but she doesn't grab me :) . I'll stay with the more comfortable quicker way to get around. But the turtle menu has the search so why can't it be with the classic?.
>3. Somewhy I miss the logo band at the left side of the menu. Probably it made >the menu more friendly/readable, that menu items appeared not at very left of >the screen. ... or just an option to show it
I love classic menu I agree, the search is very useful also to learn in which menu applications are. Please add it to classic menu :-)
I forgot to add that I'd love to see the righht click on an app that has menu editor. So it will open the menu editor right at that app like it did in 3.5. Its still good for both menus but the way its going we might have to ask for it to be added to the new menu since it gets more priority than the old style that finally came back. Anyway hope these things do get fixed .
I would love to see a search option in the classic menu style as well.
Hello! This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
