Version: (using KDE 4.0.80) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Recently I have been thinking about how nice it would be if aKregator had an optional component/pane for viewing comments. I was thinking it could sit at the bottom right of the window sharing the same space as the post viewing area. It should be pretty thin by default, not taking up too much space for the important part -- reading the actual post. the api for it should be simple and reusable for different bloggers out there (blogger, wordpress, etc) I think that this would be pretty innovative on akregator's behalf because I haven't seen that kind of support anywhere else. thanks
> I think that this would be pretty innovative on akregator's behalf because I haven't seen that kind of support anywhere else. Here are some reasons : Problem #1 : Articles feeds don't include the comments, Problem #2 : All blog owners don't add a feed to follow their comments.
Well, there is an API for that: http://wellformedweb.org/story/9 I've never checked how often it is actually used nor do I know statistics, but I've seen the corresponding tags in RSS quite often. So it's possible to implement it.
if that particular blog doesn't implement it, than the comments area can say something like: --------------------------------------------------- Comments not available for viewing here click _here_ to view the post in your web browser ---------------------------------------------------
Another idea would be for the comment pane can just slide out of view (minimize to the edge of the window) with a label "comments not supported for this feed". That way, blogs which support comments are supported, and ones that don't gracefully tell you they don't
recently, I've been using liferea and they implement this wish almost perfectly. in liferea: try for example looking at erowid review feed (http://www.erowid.org/library/review/wp-rss2.php) and see how it shows comments, or for some planetkde feeds only "comments: 3" with link, or "no comments available" for feeds that don't support it.
