Version: (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources It should be possible to change icon size in Kickoff menu. Right now there are only huge icons, which looks nice, but not very usable when you have lot of them at the small area of kickoff. Besides we all know that scrolling is evil;). Therefore users should be able to change icon size in kickoff to any size suitable for them. I also believe we should use smaller icons by default.
I agree, but may be the setting should be set in systemsettings-appearance-icons. Furthermore the setting should honour the standard-size for icons.
Actually, change the icon size wouldn't help with scrolling at all, once you have the app's name under description. Unless you use a smaller font so that description would take a bit less place but, anyway, if you want to still be able to easily read the text (specially under high screen resolutions), the difference would be very little. <div dir="ltr">Actually, change the icon size wouldn't help with scrolling at all, once you have the app's name under description. It really would be nice to be able to configure the icon size (and the font size!) for the kickoff menu. But it shouldn't rely on the standard icon size but be completely independent. And it should be possible to configure different sizes for the menu icons and the icons on the tabs. I'd prefer bigger icons for the menu and smaller icons for the category tabs. I'd also like to configure the icon sizes independent for every tab content, e.g. bigger icons in the "quit" tab and smaller icons in the "recently used" tab.

I'd also would like to be able to choose different icon sizes for different parts of kickoff. E.g. huge icons for application categories, small icons for items in application categories with many items (auto-resize like in dolphin sidebar but with the explicit option to turn auto-resize off and define size by hand). And configuration of text size, independent for application name and description, would be nice too.
Hi. I use notebook with 1024x768 resolution and Kickoff menu is too huge (also tabs like Favourites etc)and it takes too much space on the desktop. I would like to change size of icons, but there is no way how to do this. It´s not possible yet. I think people with netbooks, subnoteboks and with small desktop would appreciate this option also. I hope it could be available with KDE 4.3 release. Thanks.
Yes that would be really great, if that would make it into 4.3 Better even if this would be done at all the different places where there is the same problem (Bug reports are filed) at once.
Can someone add [UI] to the short description of this bug? Was requested here: http://kdepepo.wordpress.com/2009/06/29/high-dpi-aware-kde-applications/
Any news? Can we expect this feature in KDE 4.3?

Could someone who is capable off, please add [ui] to this description? There is this guy working on this in general, but he needs to find those bugs: http://kdepepo.wordpress.com/2009/06/29/high-dpi-aware-kde-applications/
So, any pogress? Can we finally expect the fix in KDE 4.4?
Created attachment 40207 [details] example of kickof menu with small icons If we can change icon size in kickoff, we can save some desktop place. It's important for displays with 1024x768 and especially for netbooks. P.S. Sorry for so dirty mockup - I'm not a designer
I like the autoresize feature that's proposed in Comment #5. So that the icons always use the available space. If a user has a small display s/he will have a small menu which leads to small icons. But in that case it should be possible to define a minimum size (which also would be good for dolphin BTW). E.g. I'm lost with icons smaller than 32x32. And the icons on the category tabs maybe could follow the general icon size for the main toolbars. I'd also prefer bigger icons in the menu itself (48x48 or 64x64) and smaller ones on the tabs (32x32 or even 22x22 because those icons are not that important).

I can change Kickoff's icons size in $HOME/.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kickoff/contents/ui/KickoffItem.qml, in line 183. It would be nice to have a scroll bar to do this. And when changing icons size, to also change font size. This way, when I make my icons in Kickoff smaller I can set 15 menu entries in the same menu windows size where it was 10 menu entries. Could this option be added in Application Launcher Settings next to the tabs settings.
Hello! This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
