Version: (using KDE 3.5.9) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages Compiler: The compiler that compiled Ubuntu (both x32 and x64) OS: Linux I think it's a critical one. Sometimes when a new chat window opens, i.e. I press the "View" button on the notification, which says that a new message has been recieved - Gnome crashes instantly and i get back to the login screen. Generally, it happens around 20% of all the cases i want to read a recieved message, which needs to open the chat window. Kernel 2.6.22.14-46, also tried 2.6.23.14, kopete - latest from the repos, videodriver - nvidia 169.07 (geforce 6600gt). I will gladly provide any other info on the subject. The bug has been discussed for long time at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kopete/+bug/183715 , but noone answers or tries to help.
I'm sorry for copy-pasting the bug report text from launchpad.net, it's a little bit obsolete in the versions. All the neccessary information and many "votes" are located at the link provided.
I'm not sure if it's really a kopete bug, since it crashes only with nvidia drivers according to launchpad. But the problem remains, if nvidia or xorg don't provide a solution, the devs at kopete should either kill the feature or try some other method. By the way, do you have compiz activated? If you do could you see if it crashes without it being activated?
Not a problem in Kopete. Please create a bug for this in the freedesktop.org bugzilla *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 155226 ***
