Version: kde4.1 rc1 (and older) (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources OS: Linux Running openSuSE10.3 x86-64 rpm's and nomachine free (not gpl) nxserver/client. When I log into kde4.1 rc1 from a remote machine using the nxclient, kde4.1 rc1 reacts slowly to actions such as moving and resizing windows (and plasmoids). Not un-usably slow but quite noticable and clunky. The same nxclient settings with kde3.5 or other wm's show very little or no lag. Also most window frame decorations show alot of corruption in the title bar (and upper half of frame). It's like they are trying to provide transparency but don't know what to do with nomachines xforwarding (since nx doesn't do 3d/compositing/gl). BTW other places in kde4.1 prefs (advanced effects) are quite aware that compositing is not available and properly refuse to allow incorrect settings. One other thing, the "web" style window decorations seem to be less affected than decorations such as oxygen and ozone. I haven't tried other kinds of x forwarding but that might provide more clues. Let me know if I can provide more information. dh
The web form incorrectly states I am running from compiled sources, I am using opensuse Unstable (rc1) rpms.
This is a kwin bug as you are comparing to other wms Also, how do you have rc1 packages in June?
I see the exact same behavior with KDE4.1 when using a windows client. With a linux client (debian x86-amd64 from the nomachine site) I don't have the problem.
One additional comment: I also cannot see any tray icons with a windows client. Plasmoids inside the panel are displayed correctly.

I'm using NoMachine client on Windows XP and NoMachine server in Kubuntu intrepid with KDE 4.2. Comparing with the same conditions except kde 3.x, kde 4.x runs slower. It correctly detects compositing is not available but even so it's noticeable slower than the 3.x series. Maybe it would be useful to report this to NoMachine also.
