Description Josh Berry 2008-06-01 03:45:00 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 4.2
OS: Linux

I have an Intel video card (driver version 2.3.1).

When I ask kwin to Present Windows (on all desktops), it does the Expose effect, but shows me only windows from the current desktop. It leaves empty spaces for windows on other desktops.

If I click on one of those empty spaces, it switches to the corresponding window on the other desktop, so it clearly knows about those other windows.

When I hover over an empty space that corresponds to a window, there is no highlighting/title displayed as there is when I hover over a window on the current desktop.

Is this a duplicate of bug 161436?
Comment 2 Josh Berry 2008-06-11 18:06:23 UTC
I don't know if it's a dup or not, but they do seem to be related. Turning off "Keep thumbnails up to date" seems to fix the problem, sort of.

After I turned it off, I had to switch to all the desktops that had windows on them. Otherwise those windows wouldn't show up as described above. (Presumably that's just an implementation side-effect.)

When thumbnails are not kept up to date the initial thumbnail is not generated until you visit the desktop that they are on, this causes the what you saw and is known by the dev team. Marking as a duplicate.

This is not a duplicate, although it is related. This one is about showing the window, or at least something when the option is disabled, the other one is a bug with the option enabled.

They have the same root cause and are both fixed by the patch for bug 161436. The problem was that the wallpaper window was being drawn over the windows from other desktops, due to the way the window stack was handled.

Yes i also hace this problem, KWin creates a clickable empty space for the minimized window, but does not show it.

I misread, this is a duplicate after all.
