Version: 2.0 (using KDE 4.0.4) Installed from: Fedora RPMs In kde3 konsole had a session menu with a button to the left of the session tabs. This seems to have gone in kde4. I loved this feature, because my sessions are dynamic: some other process adds/removes .desktop files to/from /home/han/.kde/share/apps/konsole/. Seems a pity that in cleaning up a bad settings interface, useful features end up being sacrificed.
The development version of Konsole contains a profile option to re-enable the "New Tab" and "Close Tab" buttons on the tab bar. The "New Tab" button has a delayed popup that allows profile selection. Profiles are not a direct analogue to Konsole/3's session functionality, but that wish is tracked elsewhere (bug #152761), and if re-implemented, the aforementioned UI would presumably continue to do serve your need as it has in the past. The buttons will be in KDE 4.1 to be released this July.

Sorry, I got it mixed up with Konsole/3's ability to serialize and restore a set of tabs.
duplicate tracking please :-). If this isn't a duplicate of bug 157015, then I'm unconvinced it should have been closed.
