Version: 3.0.4 (using KDE 4.0.4) Installed from: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Kate usually remembers the last window size (but not the position, it seems). But once I maximize Kate window, and then close it in that condition, next time I start kate, it shows up very small.

Confirmed, the same happens to me when restoring a desktop session where a maximized Kate window had been open before.
Also, if I resize kate to any other size than the minimum one then close it, the next time it opens, it is maximized.
The problem persists with Kate v3.1.2 on KDE v4.1.2.
Any plans to fix this for 4.2?
On my system, recent versions of Kate DO remember window size when maximized, but it forgets window size when NOT maximized. I am running Kate 3.1.4 in KDE 4.1.4.
I'm using the same versions as mentioned comment #6. For me, Kate remembers window size for all cases. (yes, I'm the reporter of the bug.. it seems to be fixed now, except for comment #6). Kate Version 3.1.4 Using KDE 4.1.4 (KDE 4.1.4) on Fedora 10 i686

I have done a bit more experimenting. It looks like the problem only shows up when the window is set to stretch as far as it can in either the vertical direction (from the upper edge of the screen and all the way down to the Task Manager bar) or the horizontal direction (left edge to right edge of screen). If I set the window like that and then close Kate, it will forget the setting and reshape the window next time I open it. But if I make the window so it does not fill out the entire horizontal NOR vertical length of the desktop, Kate will remember it. This problem is not Kate-specific. It happens in Kopete as well (with the chat windows, but not with the Kopete main window) on my machine. I have attached some example screenshots of situations where Kate will remember or forget the window size. (I made a mistake in the text above. Comment #9 should say "forget" instead of "remember". Sorry about that.)
I can kind of confirm Claus's observations. There's an interesting twist. 1. Open Kate and change to a small window size - one that doesn't touch any of the extremes 2. Right click on the maximize button to maximize horizontally 3. Close Kate 4. Re-open Kate - the window will be maximized VERTICALLY! 5. Close Kate in this condition 6. Re-open Kate - the window will now be maximized HORIZONTALLY 7. Close and re-open, the state toggles The same behaviour is observed with Konsole, but Dolphin works fine.
can somebody please try with KDE 4.2, this should be fixed in kdelibs 4.2.0
For me it works, both with kde 4.2.0 and with the latest svn version.
There is still a problem with kate not restoring the previous size correctly as of KDE 4.2.0. To reproduce: * Open Kate and resize to a larger, non-maximised size. * Close Kate and reopen it. It restores the previous size correctly. * Without resizing kate again, close it. * Open Kate again - it will restore at its original default small size. I've been looking at something similar in kontact (now fixed). I'll see what I can do with this one too.
Related to bug 157293 ?
Observation described in comment #14 *does not* happen with KDE 4.2.3 on Fedora 11. Kate seems to remember window size in all conditions, but not the window position. It always aligns with the top and left edges of the screen.
I concur with Syam (comment #16). Problem seems gone in Kate 3.2.3 with KDE 4.2.3, Fedora 11.
If there are no more people confirming the existence of this bug, we can perhaps close this. As for me, as described in comment #16, with KDE 4.3.1 on Fedora 11, Kate remembers window size (but not the position) without issues.
Closing as WORKSFORME. Reopen if the problem reappears. Thanks
