Description Joonas Koivunen 2008-05-10 15:42:22 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

The background of various taskbar icons is never cleared; so right from the start after each taskbar application has launched the backgrounds become more and more garbled.

See the image attachment. Sorry if there are typos, seems that this new 4.0.3 update for kubuntu screwed up khtml pretty bad. Can't even see what i am writing.

Taskbar garbage

This is the taskbar after having it resized to removed some of the garbage.
Behing ktorrents and kmix's icons nothing got removed though..

You can also see amaroks icon behind kopetes. Which isn't active, it's just
uncleared garbage.

Systray background shows other previous icons

I confirm this bug using both KDE4.1 beta2 (Kubuntu Packages) and KDE trunk
(Revision: 827500).

Seems that when new icons are added to the systray, their background contains
already present icons or even parts of digital clock text.
In the attached screenshot you can see KWallet icon "under" KOrganizer icon,
and both icons "under" Akregator icon.

I'm using a "nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400M GS" here, and I CANNOT REPRODUCE
this bug on another machine with "Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated
Graphics Controller" running Kde4.1 beta2 (Kubuntu Packages).
Using Intel cards all icon backgrounds in systray are completely black.

Maybe this bug is related to Nvidia cards? Can you reproduce the bug with
different chipsets?

Another screenshot of systray background painting issues

Another attachment. Here you can see parts of the digital clock text under KMix
icon ("Th" from "Thu, 3 Jul").

better summary and confirmed.

re comment #3: yes, graphic-glitches with nvidia-drivers seem to be somewhat normal and there are a few similar reports about this (sorry, I am to lazy yet to seek for the bug-numbers ;-)
So, if only those with nvidia-drivers are able to reproduce this then it's an upstream-bug and a duplicate of all the other cases. If there is *someone* with another driver able to reproduce this, please reopen. Thanks in advance and thanks for the feedback.
Comment 8 albert 2008-07-03 19:10:38 UTC
My graphics card is an Ati Radeon Mobility 9200 with the open source ati driver.

Comment 10 Sebastian Sauer 2008-07-03 19:22:59 UTC
hmpf. So, let's reopen the report then since it sounds like something being not nvidia's fault then imho - though I've no idea how to fix it :-/

b0rked-systray.png

Another screenshot of a "garbled in any way" systray.

This is what happens when I click "unlock widgets" -> first left icon (amarok2)
gets white, then I lock widgets again, and left one goes white too (kopete).
The icons still react though. Just white infront, and black background anyway.

This is:
* kde SVN trunk from yesterday (20080711)
* compiz
* nvidia proprietary

At work I have openSUSE 11 + their stable KDE4 running with compiz and nvidia.
No problems there.

Definitely, so. Marking as such. :)

I confirm this bug on kde-4.1.2 with intel X3100 integrated graphics & compiz. But I think without compiz also it reproduces.
Comment 20 Ruchir Brahmbhatt 2008-11-14 12:38:14 UTC
This is reduced to some extent in 4.1.3 but still present. If we toggle show desktop several times, icons background is set properly.
