Description Egbert van der Wal 2008-04-24 19:56:32 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: GNU GCC 4.1.2
OS: Linux

I use konqueror a lot for uploading file's to FTP-servers. The problem is that one of these sites has a rather long url and the username is also rather long. I use username:password@hostname to connect. The total length of this string is 50 characters, of which 23 of the username.

The thing is that Konqueror for some reason tries to shorten this by reducing the username. In the above example, this is what ends up in my address bar:

us...me@hostname

Of course, this is not the correct username anymore, but Konqueror tries to authenticate with it to the server anyway. This means that almost most navigation fails because I get new authentication dialog's all the time. Rather annoying.

I don't know why it's shortening the username but it shouldn't do that IMO.

I can reproduce and confirm this at least for kde < 4.

Not in 3.5.9
