Version: (using KDE 4.0.2) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages Copying many small files shows the speed indicator as stalled in the copy dialog. For example, right now I am copying 4.6 GB of a lot of very small files (256kb bitmaps) from my hard drive to a shared folder over the network. The copy is proceeding fine and at full speed (ksysguard reports 800kb/s) but the speed indicator on the progress dialog shows Stalled. This may not be easy to fix properly, but something to prevent showing stalled, which is a bit disconcerting, would be good.
Created attachment 24187 [details] Copy dialog As mentioned, it is only the indicator which is incorrect, the copy itself works fine.
On further testing, this bug applies on local copies as well. When copying that same folder to another location on the same partition, there is a speed indicator for the first few seconds, and then it shows stalled again (even though it is copying very quickly).
Have you experienced this bug again with a recent KDE version? (4.1.3 / 4.2beta2 / 4.2svn) ? Thanks :)
I wouldn't say this bug is resolved, however it manifests itself in a different and more annoying way now. When copying a lot of small files, there is no speed indicator at all (the line where it usually is displayed is just blank) and the title of the dialog is alternately "Copying" and "Copying (x% of y mb complete)". This constant change of titlebar text is quite annoying. However it is not the same bug as described in this report, so I think this one is safe to close. I'll check on the other issue. KDE 4.1.3, debian packages
Just retested in 4.1.85+svn899359 (from debian) and the problem still applies in principle. Even though the copy now uses plasma as the notification (some serious user interaction issues here, but I digress), the problem remains. Copying a folder of many small files shows 0B/s as the speed, even though it is copying quickly.
I suppose this is because the operation doesn't consider all the files when calculating the Speed , but only the current file and as each file is copied in "no-time" the operation only shows 0Kib/s I'm adding David Faure to this bug's CC as KIO may be involved in this @David: I'm just adding your mail to this bug for you to check if this may be KIO related. I know you're working a lot in KDE issues right now (already a heavy job). Just get noticed and check this in the future :). Thanks
Reassigning to KIO
