Description Ralph Janke 2008-03-26 17:49:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Forwarded from two reportsin Kubuntu (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/155051) (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153964)

Since I last logged into one of my websites via ftp (using a link in Network Folders), the long-ish login name has been truncated. I originally thought this was just for display, but after getting login errors at the ftp server, i opened the entry in Kate, and say the login was shortened as shown below.
from
 *******_********
 to
 ******...******

I can confirm this bug for ftp kio-slave. authentication doesnt work with the truncated username.

The bug appears when the id of the samba user is quite long like "name.surname".
In this case, konqueror abbreviates the id name with some dots in something like "nam...rname".
So it sends to samba the id abbreviated, not the complete one, ane the authentication fails.
