Because it is not scanned, I can't use the data stored in Knetworkmanager, I have to choose "connect to another network", and then to retype all security information, that are already stored in Knetworkmanager... !
There is a problem with many iwl-based drivers that breaks detection of hidden networks - please report this to your distro.
Will, why isn't possible to manually specify the name of the SSID and let knetworkmanager use it even if the network is hidden? How the driver works shouldn't interfere with it.
I cannot connect to a hidden wireless lan network without enabling broadcasting first. steps: 1. right-click the icon 2. Manage connections... 3. Add... 4. enter the hidden network's SSID 5. clicked "Wireless Security" 6. set Security to WPA/WPA2 Personal 7. entered the password 8. entered a connection name 9. checked "Connect automatically" 10. OK 11. OK 12. right-click the icon 13. Connect to other network 14. select the newly created network config (notice it says "insecure" instead of WPA) 15. click connect 16. nothing happens #14 makes me think that this is a problem with the connection editor
looks like I can't edit comments... I'm using ipw2200 and I never had this problem with kde3's knetworkmanager. the problem started cropping up with the new version of knetworkmanager and the according network-manager daemon version. I also reported this bug to the debian bugtracker, but they will probably tell me to report it here.
Sorry guys but I think that this is a valid requirement, moreover IMHO it is not an enhancement but a bug (it's a pity that I'm not allowed to reopen this issue). Or, please, tell me how can I connect to a hidden SSID using Network Manager and KDE? Thanks a lot in advance.
BTW this is not the only issue filed against the same problem - have a look at issue #209464. ...so, it seems like a valid issue, right? ;)
being a bit curious about this old issue I've done some tests (usually I don't use the kde on my laptop so it just works). I've installed archlinux with the latest kde and networkmanager packages (KDE SC 4.4.3 and networkmanager 0.8) Knetworkmanager is able to connect to the hidden network. So it looks that it works :-)
