Version: desconocido (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (gutsy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu1~gutsy1~ppa1) Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22-14-generic I use Kontact in Spanish language and have two contacts in Kaddressbook called: - Maria A - María B <-- Note the accent "í" !!! When I start writting in Kmail "To" field the letters "mari" there just appears "Maria A" (written with no accents). Note also that any internet browser (Google, Yahoo) matches words with or without accents even if the user searched the word with or withour accent. For example, if I search in Google: "Maria" then Google will also match "maría". I think Kontact should do the same when searching for a contact name, or mail subject... Many times I write a mail direction in "To" header and it's autocompleted with a mail received in a previous mail but not stored in my Kaddressbook. In these cases is difficult to know how the sender wrote him name in the "From" field. So I suggest to improve the mathing algorithm for the autocomplete behaviour in many Kontact fields.
See also related bug #169403, which asks that certain characters be ignored in searches.

Still valid in kdepim git
As modern Hebrew does not have the J sound, when transliterating non-Hebrew names we sometimes use the G (ג) letter with an apostrophe. For instance, the name Jarred could be written as either "ג'רד" or "גרד". Therefore, as either way could be written (even inconsistently by the same person), Korganizer should ignore the apostrophe in searches. A search on "ג'רד" should match both "ג'רד" and "גרד", and a search on "גרד" should also match both "ג'רד" and "גרד". Note that some other characters should be ignored in searches as well, such as the Hebrew vowel points. When a contact is named "דוֹתָן" then a search for "דותן" should turn him up as well. Thanks.
In English an example of such a character would be the hyphen. The name "Ben-Solman" could be typed "Ben Solman" for instance. In Hebrew the letter Yod and the character Geresh (apostrophe) are often eliminated in names, and just as often included. This is very problematic and even strict adherence to either an "include all" or "eleminate all" policy from the user's perspective is not enough to eliminate the problem.
