Description Michael 2008-02-12 17:14:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.0.2) distcc 2.18.3 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) [enabled] (Not used by cmake?)

There were two things I instantly loathed about 4.0.1

One of which is my inability to figure out how to setup Auto-Hide. (Which is surely a basic, release candidate level requirement, you wouldn't release without it, would you?)

First, not only was the application display/launch bar thing huge, I still haven't been able to figure out auto-hide for it.

Second, I can't set auto-hide for any other widgets.

Maybe this can be fixed with documentation, but the request is more for future releases (and hopefully someone links me to some documentation in the interim).

So, the Request.

Auto-Hide should be possible, and should have three general areas of setting (multi-head might require more).

1) Global, effecting all screen edges, setting the default behavior for any Widget/Plasmoid docked against an edge.
2) Per-Edge (same)
3) Per-Widget/Plasmoid

More specific settings obviously over-riding the defaults, which should be configurable.

I just had another idea about this as well.

Possible Widget/Plasmoid docking/hiding on window edges (Inherits 1., has own setting for 2., setting for 3. is inherited as well.)

One more suggestion.

Depending on desktop effects in use, it might be possible to do more then just hide the window inside of an invisible line next to a border.

For example, rotating it to the side, like a sheet of paper standing perfectly upright so you either see just a single side pixel or nothing at all, and then rotating down in to view. Or increasing the transparency to a configured value, possibly 100%, and only bringing it back once that edge is hit.

Hello, I would like to request one new option for auto hide of the panel.

In KDE 3.5.9, that I'm using , you can set the Panel to auto-hide after the cursor leaves the panel with delay in seconds.

You can also set how the panel will be unhidden (touch the bottom/top/left/right edge of the screen). I would love to see option that will add delay in seconds before the panel is unhidden when you touch the edge.

This behavior has e.g. software called ObjectDock for Windows XP.
This is what I would like to see in KDE4 :)

Cheers
