Description Karsten Fleischer 2008-01-22 19:42:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

I'm using (or trying to use) the new KDE4 desktop on an OpenSUSE 10.3 system.
Unfortunately I can not get any http connectivity from konqueror or any of
the plasmoids. I have to use a proxy server, which uses user authentication.
No matter whether I set this via the environment variables, the manual
settings dialog or a proxy script, konqueror and the whole kio_http slave
does not seem to use these proxy settings at all, as I get the same errors
as if I would set no proxy at all. So it looks to me as no matter what I set
up in the settings dialog it is simply ignored.

Local pages, where I do not need to use the proxy do work fine,
so it is not a problem of the connectivity itself. If I do connect
to such a local page lsof does show that the konqueror does not
use the proxy, even though no exceptions are set up.
The same proxy settings do work in firefox or konqueror from kde3.

The problem is also not limited to the OpenSUSE packages, as exactly the
same error occurs on Ubuntu 7.10.

So basically it looks to me as if the proxy configuration is completely
ignored, and I don't know where to start to find out why, as I don't
get any error messages in .xsession-errors.

Maybe related to this problem is that /usr/lib64/kde4/kded_proxyscout.so
is running via kded4 although I never activated the "Automatically detect
proxy settings" button.

Details of the current system:

konqueror --version
Qt: 4.3.3
KDE: 4.00.00 (KDE 4.0.0) "release 5.1"
Konqueror: 4.00.00 (KDE 4.0.0) "release 5.1"
