Version: 1.4.2 (using KDE 3.5.4) Installed from: Mandriva RPMs OS: Linux Many graphic-formats (i.e. PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, PCX, etc.) are able to hold information about DPI-settings inside the file itself, which is useful for defining printout-sizes of images (see also bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129948 ). With GwenView it should be possible to enlarge / scale down the printsize of the images, still respecting the original image-size given from the DPI values, if present. GwenView should have an option to define the printout-size in percent, still respecting the original image-size given from the DPI values inside the file, if present. If these DPI-values are not present, GwenView should assume a "standard-value", i.e. 75dpi (mostly screenshots won't hold DPI-informations). My suggestion - add a new entry "percent" in the following pulldown-menu: Print-menu -> Image-Settings -> Scaling -> Scale to: Then you could find: * Millimeters * Centimeters * inch + percent (NEW) If "percent" doesn't suit the needs of the format of the values to type in, you could also do a: 1.00 instead of 100% 1.50 instead of 150% 2.00 instead of 200% ... and so on Some useful links: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129948 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140493 http://doc.trolltech.com/3.3/qimage.html#dotsPerMeterX
One more thought: Equivalent programs to GwenView under MS-Windows (XnView and IrfanView) grey out the option to print the image respecting the DPI-values of the file, if these informations are not present inside the image-file. So the new "percent"-tab" could be non-selectable in this case.
Won't be implementd for 1.4.x serie, since only minor bugfixes are done on this. But it's a good idea for 2.0. (As long as you don't get annoying with nasty sentences like "Would be nice if I could see some progress here, soon." - bug 129248)
