Version: (using KDE 4.0.0) Using last Kubuntu packages of KDE 4.0.0 I see this behaviour: - Using dolphin columns view - Click on a file and opening kwrite - After some seconds I see the dialog as in my attachment. I'll try to delete all .kde4 folder to reset all settings and re-tray but the result is the same.

Experiencing exactly the same problem, however I'm opening .html file with kate-kde4. - Click on a file to open - Focusing back into the dolphin window and the app appears frozen - After some seconds there's error message - Click OK makes things carry on as normal
Yes, KDE 4.0.1 also has the same problem. My distro is OpenSUSE, all things updated.
Sorry, I cannot reproduce this (neither with KDE 4.0.0, 4.0.1 nor trunk). I'm also using the suse packages. Could you also temporary rename the .kde directory (not only .kde4), maybe there is some conflict with the KDE 3 installation? Thanks!
Renaming .kde and .kde4 does not work on my box... The Konqueror in kde4 also has the same problem.

Now I'm using KDE4.00.63 and the problem doesn't appear with Kwrite. *but* when Dolphin invoke Kate, the same problem occurred. When I close Kate, the message "QDBusConnection received a message of type 2 that it shouldn't have" appeared in the terminal.
Problem resolved in 4.00.64 (>= 20080228 "release 2.1"). Thx a lot ~;)
I get the same error message on log in when ktorrent.desktop is in the ~/.kde/Autostart directory. When i click OK KDE crashes.
Sorry that i post 2 comments in a row, just to say that ktorrent works perfect when i run it manually, only when i try to autostart it KLauncher shows this message.

The problem is there in KDE 4.0.4, too. I don't use KDE3, but when I open file with Kate it behaves the way it was written. Error message appears.
I have installed Fedora 9 with KDE 4.0.3 2 days ago and get the same error on opening kate via dolphin "KLauncher could not be reached via D-Bus, error when calling start_service_by_desktop_path: empty"
I've reopened the bug again but have reassigned it to kdelibs (hint for kdelibs: Dolphin uses KFileItem::run()).
Yes, I fixed this bug last week, it comes from the KDE3 (or ~/.kde) kwrite.desktop which has X-DCOP-ServiceType. The fix (ignoring that key) will be in 4.0.5 and 4.1. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 156339 ***
