Description Joe Rabinoff 2008-01-04 05:54:49 UTC
Version: 0.12.5 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.0.1)
OS: Linux

For Google Talk at least, I think the expected behavior is that messages from different resources of the same contact should show up in the same window. But in Kopete, messages from different resources show up in different windows (or tabs, depending on the grouping settings). This is very annoying to me, since I have a couple of friends that switch between their gmail client and GAIM/Kopete regularly, so it opens a new window (and loses the chat history) relatively frequently.

I suggest at least adding a configuration option somewhere (perhaps in the Jabber account configuration, or perhaps on a per-subcontact basis from the subcontact right-click menu, although I'd prefer the former) to group all messages from the same Jabber contact (the same meta contact even?) in the same window.

I am using latest Kopete (kde 4.1.2) in fedora 9 and this behaviour still exists and I find it really annoying. In fact , in google Talk, if the other chat participant is using gmail web interface , and closes and started the conversation again ,even that creates a new tab and chat continuity is lost . This a very annoying behaviour of this otherwise se great IM application. I request the devs to please modify this behaviour!!!

This looks like a duplicate of Bug 175078, Bug 111537 or Bug 142650: They
address the changing of the resource name when the Google Talk server is used.

Seems related with bug 194808 too. It has been fixed, however I experienced it again this week with Kopete 0.70.90 (KDE 4.3.64 (KDE 4.3.64 (KDE 4.4 >= 20090812))).

Long time no experience this bug, closing as FIXED.
Please reopen if you experience this bug with KDE SC 4.4+
Thanks!
