Description Thomas 2007-12-13 13:45:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

So far, when I want to include a linter or execute a program, I need to open up a konsole window and end the external program with an ugly shell read ("Please press enter to close this window").

It would be nice if kate could capture the external program's STDOUT/STDERR and display that in a frame like the terminal or the Make plugin. That would make kate a nice scripting editor as switching to/from the internal konsole window and repeating commands gets unnerving...

Plus... This should not be hard to implement...

Those are on the list for the new version of the plugin I plan for kate 3.0 -- to be written when i find time.

External Tools is removed for 4.8, lack of maintainer, closing bugs, asking for somebody to step up, all bugs to look at listed there for archiving.

The external tools plugin will be back for the Applications 19.12 release. The behavior described in this report should be fixed.

It's back, see here: https://kate-editor.org/post/2019/2019-09-21-external-tools-plugin/

And it has a capture window for output.
