Could you please attach your preferences file, which will be ~/.kde/share/config/kalarmrc (or similar location).

One thing which puzzles me is that the version of KAlarm which you are running, 1.4.15, is older than the version issued with KDE 3.5.8, which is 1.4.17. Could there be an incompatibility with KDE 3.5.8? Or has Ubuntu for some reason used an older version of KAlarm than the rest of KDE? Can you please check that you actually have the up to date KAlarm package version.
Yes, I have the up to date version of KAlarm. The info shown in adept_manager about the version is: 4:3.5.7enterprise20070926-0ubuntu2
So you're running a KDE 3.5.7 version of KAlarm, with KDE 3.5.8. And there is no KDE 3.5.8 KAlarm package available?
no, I made apt-get update, and it doesn't offers me any updates. on http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/kde/kalarm you see, that for the last Ubuntu version there is only the 3.5.7 version offered.

Christoph - are you running on 32-bit or 64-bit Ubuntu?
