Description Peter Eisentraut 2007-11-04 16:54:35 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I created a separate local wallet and checked the appropriate option in the settings. Now I figured since the kmail entries are indexed by some sort of randomly assigned account IDs, they are specific to the local system. So I moved all of them to the local wallet. After that, kmail no longer found the passwords. This may be the first bug: It should look in all available wallets, shouldn't it? And then if I reentered the passwords manually, it stored them in the global wallet. Are these not more appropriately local?

This is completely up to kmail. Most applications only use one single wallet to store their passwords. I guess kmail is using the local wallet, others (eg. kopete) use the network wallet. This is however not directly related to kwallet. As a matter of fact every application is free to check any wallet for the data.

As the behaviour you describe is by design, I'll make it a wish. I'll also reassign it to kmail so they can decide if they want to implement it.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.

I don't know if kmail is the right component now but kmail2 is affected as of KDE 4.9.3.

How is configurate your kwallet etc ?
I have two wallets one the local wallet set to "kdewallet" which has no password. However,
the default is set to "webstore" which requires a password.

What do you do ?
I moved the "kmail", "mailtrasports" and "pop3" folders from "webstore" to "kdewallet".

What do you expect ?
kmail should still remember the passwords. Instead it asks for the mail server password.
