Description Gene Heskett 2007-10-22 05:17:18 UTC
Version: 1.9.7 (using KDE 3.5.7-22.fc7 Fedora, Fedora release 7 (Moonshine))
Compiler: Target: i386-redhat-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22.4-65.fc7

I can turn off all interval checking and I still get, at about 2 minute intervals, two must click past them, dialog boxes reporting it cannot access /var/mail/root. /var/mail/root is not in any account, nor is it contained in kmailrc.

This renders kmail virtually worthless since it cannot do anything else while these advisories are on screen.

All rx accounts are configured as local accounts in mailfile format because fetchmail, spamc and procmail delivers it all to /var/spool/mail/gene, running as the user gene, from several external accounts. Kmail can receive roots email from /var/spool/mail/root, also a mailfile.

Please help, this is very annoying and I need it working on the road starting tomorrow. I have a daughter dying of cancer about 1000 miles west of here, the 2nd & last of my girls. I'd like to get there in time to say goodbye.

Thanks, Gene

I appear to have found it, by grepping for that '/var/mail/root' string in the /root/.kde tree, it was in share/config/emaildefaults, which I manually edited to become '/var/spool/mail/root', restarted kmail and I believe its now happy, at least the nagging has stopped.

But, nowhere in the 'control center' that I could find, was there a place to set this options value, nor is there a place in the kmail config screen that I could find. Or is this 'set as default' buttons results?

It shouldn't be this hard to fix something like that.

@Gene: It seems the path might be mistakenly changed to incorrect one while creating local account as whenever we create local account, it shows path as "/var/spool/mail/<USER>". Are you able to reproduce this bug somehow? Can you provide the steps if so?

This should be fixed in kmail from kde4.

(#define _PATH_MAILDIR "/var/spool/mail")

Please reopen if you can reproduce it.

It was never again a problem. Close it with my blessings.
