Description 246824681 2007-10-12 20:29:25 UTC
Version: 0.9.2.3.5.7.Kubuntu (gutsy) 4:3.5.7-1ubuntu15 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Everytime I close Dolphin, I get the following message:

"Speichern der Lesezeichen in /home/maxi/.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/bookmarks.xml nicht möglich. Der Fehler lautet: Permission denied. Die Meldung wird nur einmal angezeigt. Die Ursache sollte so rasch wie möglich beseitigt werden. Möglicherweise ist die Festplattenkapazität erschöpft."

When I click "OK" the message disapears and dolphn seems to close normal...

Thanks for the bug-report! I know it has not been communicated very well, but bugs.kde.org for Dolphin is only valid for the KDE 4 version of Dolphin, the KDE 3 version is not maintained anymore (see also http://enzosworld.gmxhome.de/download.html section "Dolphin 0.8.2 (KDE 3.5.5)" for more infos).

Anyhow I'm not sure whether this is really related to Dolphin or a local permissions problem in your environment. In the KDE4 version of Dolphin this issue can not occur anymore, as the bookmark handling is done by KDE now and not within Dolphin anymore.

PS: I forgot - please just open /home/maxi/.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/ as root with Dolphin, do a right-click on bookmarks.xml and select "Properties" and modify the permissions to "can view & modify content" for the owner; this should fix the error message.

same problem, if i open a root dolphin session,no prob at all, but opening and closing it like a user i receive always that error prompt (in short: is not possible to save the bookmarks, permit denied, this message will be shown once, perhaps your disk is full)
i have tryed to check (with a "kdesudo dolphin" command) the permissions of that file, and it is already
owner view/modify
group view
others view

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1147 2007-10-18 21:31 bookmarks.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1147 2007-10-18 21:31 bookmarks.xml.bak

where's the problem?
regards and sorry the bad english

(kde 3.5.8 Dolphin 0.9.2 > kubuntu 7.10)

the easyeast you can do you open a dolphin or konquerer window as root....command "kdesu dolphin"

you go the the folder home/~//.kde/share/apps/d3lphin/
and delete the bookmarks.xml

close dolphin/konqueror open dolphin like usual and the file will be created again and it's working....

I've got the same problem here on Kubuntu "gutsy". Seems to be some kind of permissions problem, but deleting the bookmarks file resolves the issue.

I recommend all Kubuntu users to use "kdesu konqueror" instead, if you need to run a file manager with root permissions as using "kdesu dolphin" makes the problem appear again (so that you'll have to fix it everytime you've used dolphin with root privileges).

The same problem also appears every time 'Open as Root' is used, if the root dolphin window is closed, the message appears when closing the original dolphin window.
