Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages Compiler: gcc 4.1 OS: Linux It would be great if it was possible to make yakuake unfold from any side of the screen, not just from the top, or at least from the bottom. Speaking for myself, it would be much more useful if it could unfold from the bottom too. I could finally use yakuake to replace my current "floating konsole" solution which is simply based on konsole and the ability of kwin to apply particular settings to specific windows. Cheers Jami
It would be nice, if the unfolding begins in the middle of the screen (SystemShock-Players (from 1994!) know what I mean). Idea for the animation: First Step: Yakuake open in the middle of the screen as point. Second Step: Yakuake will be a line. Thrid Step: Yakuake will be a box. That would be cool!
Hehe, props for a nice idea (I did play 'Shock ;).
Hehe, and E-Mails will be displayed as TriOpt-Messages in the middle of the screen. With the cool Logo-Animation ;) But now... I wish me a yakuake in the middle of my desktop ;)
Created attachment 25829 [details] Patch for unfolding yakuake from below of the screen. This patch applies to version 2.8.1. Added checkbox in settings which allows opening terminal from below. I don't have QtDesigner 3, so I had to hack the appropriate .ui file by hand. It's fully usable, but results in a bit ugly positioning of the checkbox in settins dialog. Someone with older Designer could fix this in mere minutes.
Created attachment 25830 [details] Patch mk. II Corrected patch, fixes minor graphic glitch (off-by-one error in calculating widgets geometries).
Please note that development of the KDE 3-based version of Yakuake (anything older than 2.9.0) is closed, and no further patches will be incorporated into that codebase. (That said, I also wouldn't accept it for the KDE 4-based version - if I do this, I will do it properly by making sure the new skin engine allows for skins to be written that can properly adapt to different window positions, and allow all screen edges. No stomach for yet-another-checkbox hacks. :-) Still, thanks for sharing for those who might want it.)
Interesting idea, but I think it'd be better to collaborate with KWin on doing the animation in WM compositing first... or at least ask them for the ability to set show/hide animations in the window-specific settings dialog.

+1!! It would be totally awesome to unfold Yakuake from any side of the screen, even from the center as the good'ol System Shock panel use to behave!

Wow, this issue is from 2007, but I'll still add my +1. It would be awesome if it would be possible to open the terminal from the bottom. Other than that I really like yakuake.
I see that there's a patch for version 2.8.1 but I can't see the checkbox in 3.0.2. why?

+1 ! The only feature missing in KDE to make me completely forget about Gnome + Guake.
+1 in 2025 :-)
