Description J 2007-08-16 11:29:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Currently, when printing web pages into a .pdf file,
it is possible to include a header containing the URL of
the web page on every page.

Since people use this feature to archive pages
(probably not on physical paper but on their hard drive),
it would be nice to have this URL in .pdf clickable.

Feature request.

Can possibly be implemented during KDE 4.x.

This concerns the plans of KHTML/Webkit developers. (I'm not sure what their plas are regarding printing... there are a *lot* of bread and butter issues to be fixed, still). If they are able to

  (a) either generated PostScript with 'pdfmarks', or
  (b) or directly export PDF with hyperlink support

this can be done. In case of (a), Ghostscript already today can convert such PostScript into PDF with clickable links.... (and Ghostscript is, what does heavylifting on behalf of KDEPrint when it comes to PDF creation.)

added 'component' tagging,

Very few PDF generating programs do preserve hyperlinks of a printout, would be great if KDE4 did.

I would personally love this as well, but I am not aware of any way to "draw links" using Qt's QPainter class. We use Qt for painting, so Qt needs to add support for printing links first.

Dear user,

KHTML (and KJS) was a long time more or less unmaintained and got removed in KF6.

Please migrate to use a QWebEngine based HTML component.

We will do no further fixes or improvements to the KF5 branches of these components beside important security fixes.

For security issues, please see:

https://kde.org/info/security/

Sorry that we did not fix this issue during the life-time of KHTML.

Greetings
Christoph Cullmann
