Version:           1.9.7 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs
Compiler:          Target: i586-suse-linux
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.18.8-0.3-default

Emails created from a template via "File/New/From Template..." are delivered with a "Date" field containing the template creation date.

Workaround: manually delete Date line from template file below $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/templates

Proposed solution: KMail shouldn't store Date in template file at all and fill the field when using the template.
