Please report this bug to (K)Ubuntu's bug tracking system at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ kprinter from KDE 3.5.6 worked fine on Knoppix, Sidux and openSUSE 10.2 when I tested it. This most be specific to your distro or your system, and I am not in a position to help you there.
