Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Typically alt-tab is a combo to task-switch in KDE. Short alt-tab allows user fast switching between two last used apps (windows). Now, when Krusader finishes searching for files, user can double click on file name, and Krusader switches to the main program. This is very useful feature, but in the task-switch list those two windows are far apart. Please, keep them close in this list, in other words, allow user to short alt-tab switch back to search window.
AFAIK, it the responsibility of the window manager to group the windows of one application together. Nothing we can do about it.
Like Alex said. On top of that, e.g. kwin has alt+key_above_tab feature to switch between the same application windows by default. The same should be in gnome.
I think that Alex and Martin are right. Additionally, at least using Kubuntu 17.04: > > allow user to short alt-tab switch back to search window. Curiously, If I press Alt+Shift+Tab then I switch back to search window. > kwin has alt+key_above_tab feature [...] To redefine that shortcut we can go to "System Settings > Shortcuts > Global Shortcuts > KWin > Walk Through Windows of Current Application" (is better to redefine it in some non-English keyboards :-) ).
