Description Gregor B. Rosenauer 2007-05-09 18:38:33 UTC
Version: 2.5.6 (using KDE 3.5.6, Kubuntu (feisty) 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu14)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22-1-386

Although Kate is configured to warn me when opened files are changed, I get no warning when changing the file externally.
It seems the change-warning does not work with CIFS-shares, because when testing with local files it works perfectly.
I use the same CIFS-share on my desktop and on my laptop and sometimes work on the same files - in this situation it is critical to have a consistent state, so changes are instantly propagated (automatic reload would be best in my case) or at least a warning is issued.
Maybe there is a workaround for CIFS-shares? (is there no node-monitoring similar to inotify in the CIFS-protocol?)

How is the CIFS mounted?
Comment 2 Christoph Cullmann 2007-06-03 12:27:00 UTC
Sorry, without more information can't help.
Even if this doesn't work, this is a kdirwatcher problem (kdelibs).
Comment 3 Gregor B. Rosenauer 2007-06-04 19:51:15 UTC
sorry, I was offline the last week, here is some more information:

CIFS-share is mounted normally via fstab, here is the corresponding line:
//server/share   /media/docs  cifs    credentials=/home/grexe/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,uid=1000,gid=1000   0  0

Is this a bug in kdelibs or is it simply not supported?

Reassigning to kio.
Comment 5 Dawit Alemayehu 2013-06-14 13:12:47 UTC
Is this still an issue under the latest stable version of KDE 4?

See comment #5.
