Description Pierre Pardot 2007-05-06 14:34:48 UTC
Version: 0.1-0ubuntu12 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

If you start knetworkmanager with wireless disabled by hardware (hot key in laptops) and then you enable the wireless it may take a lot of time for knetworkmanager to re-scan the networks and find them. There should be an option like "refresh" or "rescan now" like windows xp has in order not to make the user wait because can think that the network is not working properly if no networks are found some seconds after.

It's not possible to do this unfortunately. KNetworkManager is just a UI for the NetworkManager daemon and its developers reject this feature. They are aware of this demand though.

Does KDE users not have any other tools that they can go to when the gnome developers insist on laying constraints on the users?

This is not why I became a linux user.

It is possible to force a rescan of the network by disabling and then re-enabling the wireless network. Knetworkmanager could have a menu entry that serves as a shortcut for these two option. In other words, when I click on this menu entry, knetworkmanager first disables the network and then immediately re-enables is. The entry could be called "refresh network" or similar.
