Version: 3.5.6 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux My issue: Konqueror is unable to find any files at all. This issue occurs when searching for pictures, documents, mp3s, etc., I first encountered this problem when I was using Ubuntu Dapper which is v6.06LTS. However, due to certain nasty issues on Dapper, I did a clean installation of Feisty which is currently in beta status: v7.04. Again, I encountered this issue within Konqueror. What I did: 1) I searched using "All files and folders". 2) When the above failed to produce any results, I switched to using a more specific search term. That is, when searching for images like .jpg, etc., I'd use a term like "All images" and when searching for mp3s, "All sounds". Again, I received no results. 3) I tried again and again but still, I received no search results. 4) Then, I decided to try searching for files using Nautilus File Manager and it was able to find the files. The same goes for "Search for files"(another Search function in Ubuntu). Below are 3 screenshots. One shows the search results in Konqueror, another shows the search results in Nautilus and the last shows the search results from "Search for files". Also, I'd like to add that when searching, I did not use any additional search terms. Finally, I actually reinstalled Konqueror but this issue still remained.
Eeks, I also forgot to mention that when I started using Konqueror in Dapper, I could never use it to find any files at all.
Further testing.... I've been testing further on this issue. It seems that: a) Using "All files" as a search term doesn't work either. b) Konqueror can actually find a file if I input the exact filename like "mew.jpg" Thus, this gives me "mew.jpg" in the search results. c) Konqueror can find a folder only if I input the exact folder name. Like "Food" gives me the folder "Food" .
In 3.5.9 and trunk I have the same problem, but I'm not sure if it's a bug, but it's annoying and not friendly. What I did to start getting searches to actually return results, was like so: finding mp3s? "*.mp3" instead of "mp3" finding files with "new" in them? "*new*" instead of "new" . KFind expects regular expressions and rarely does someone realize that. I'll confirm the bug, but I'll move it to kfind because that's where the bug comes from, not konqueror.
Isn't this bug a duplicate of https://bugs.kde.org/78454 ?
