Version: 1.9.6 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6) Installed from: Gentoo Packages Compiler: gcc 4.1.2 OS: Linux kmail can take >30 seconds to jump between fully downloaded inbox and sent-mail folders on the IMAP server. And don't ask about if I have to jump from a not-fully-downloaded folder to inbox: it will just hang with the godaweful "Retrieving Folder Contents" screen. At this very time, I am downloading headers for Trash folder and clicking on inbox has been showing me the screen for last 2 minutes. The whole sequence: 1. click on inbox. let it download all headers. 2. click on sent-mail folder. let it download all headers. 3. jump between inbox and sent-mail folders. Long time between jumps anywhere from 5 seconds to 1 minute. 4. click on Trash folder, and immd. click on inbox. No inbox is shown but the blue screen with "Retrieving Folder Contents" stays there forever (now after 6 minutes, it is still there), till it completes downloading Trash header completely. It has hung so badly once that I need exit and get in again. Compare those times with thunderbird: I click on a folder, I immd. start seeing the headers and window pane starts to increase in size (scroll bar expands). If at this time, I go to another fully downloaded folder, its view with msg headers appears instantaneously (less than 1 sec). I jump between folders and it takes less than a second. So, what's up? Is there a setting that I missed? is it ipv6?
I see the same issues (Mandriva Cooker, KDE 4.3.85). Especially the very-long-staying "Retrieving Folder Contents" for an up-to-date folder which stays until the previous folder has finished loading, is very irritating. However, I just noticed that if one clicks the folder for a 2nd time while the "Retrieving Folder Contents" is shown, the folder is opened immediately.
3 years and kmail is still a dog! How do you expect KDE to become a top notch desktop environment if it can't put development in its core suites. Help me make a KDE/QT only desktop. I want to get rid of thunderbird but can't because its far superior to kmail with respect to navigation delays documented in this bug.
I understand you filling sad about this but please don't insult people working on kmail in their free time. I have to bugs similiar to this. bug #131507 is one candidate - read at the end. Do you have many unread mails in your folders? If not bug #206280 may have something to do with this too.
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
