Description İşbaran Akçayır 2007-03-05 12:51:58 UTC
Version: 0.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.6)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages
Compiler:          gcc 4.1.2
OS:                Linux

hi,
i do these steps to reproduce;

* open kdevelop
* project->new->c++->kde->simple, designer based kde app
* save this project
* open kdevdesigner
* open the ui file in projects src directory
* try to save.

this is what i get from console:

QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
kdevdesigner: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : io-slave (couldn't create)
klauncher message: Unknown protocol ''.
kdevdesigner:
KCrash: Application 'kdevdesigner' crashing...
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.

this doesn't happen if i use the save-as action.

also if i try to open a qtdesigner created ui, again kdevdevelop crashes.

and the backtrace ( i'm not sure if i did that correct )

(gdb) run

We need to know at least which version of KDevelop you are using. In case you are using 3.3 (which comes with KDE 3.5) please upgrade to 3.4, we don't support 3.3 anymore.

Also, do you start the kdevdesigner by clicking the .ui file inside kdevelop or do you use it as completely external app.
Comment 2 İşbaran Akçayır 2007-03-05 13:12:02 UTC
i'm using kdevelop 3.4.0, and i started kdevdesigner as an ext. app. then
opened the ui files

i couldn't find the way to open these ui files in kdevelop, i'm still
searching :)

Look at the right side, there's the automake manager which manages the project. Also have a look into the FAQ and the handbook to find out more about that.

As for your crash I currently suspect the Suse kdelibs package, as it seems the crash is in the kparts. However to be sure: Is the project on a local disc or maybe on a network share?
Comment 4 İşbaran Akçayır 2007-03-05 14:48:06 UTC
thanks for the manager information, the project is on my local disc

I am having this problem as well using kdevelop 3.4.0-r2, using gentoo.I get the same backtrace log as well as above. When I try to save a .ui file, it crashes. This is true whether I opened it in kdevdesigner or by clicking on the program file.
Comment 6 John Groszko 2007-03-18 01:53:23 UTC
I've got the same problem on Kubuntu, using KDE 3.5.6, KDevelop 3.4, KDevDesigner 0.2.

As an external app whenever I save I get a crash, but changes are still saved. When clicking on a .ui file in KDevelop it doesn't open.

My backtrace:

A with a user above I am running Kubuntu (7.04 - Feisty Fawn), using KDE 3.5.6, KDevelop 3.4, KDevDesigner 0.2.

The problem doesn't seem to occur when I run KDevDesigner embedded but I prefer it run stand-alone for a less cluttered view. I would use Qt designer directly (doesn't crash when I save) but that has so many redraw problems at the moment that it is unusable.

As to the stand-alone KDevDesigner:
Whenever I press save I get the same crash (backtrace below) although, as noted, the data does seem to be saved but this is extremely annoying when you are trying to keep a work flow going.

Comment 17 Ryan Murdick 2008-02-24 08:05:21 UTC
I have the same problem with Fedora 8, I had it with 6 too. I'm kind of surprised this bug is still 'unconfirmed.' Also, the platform isn't limited to gentoo (which should be obvious at this point). My notebook is running Ubuntu...same issue there.

I'd put the backtrace up but there aren't any real surprises. I guess I'll keep using Glade. I wish KDE would fix this because I like this IDE better than the others.
Comment 18 Andreas Pakulat 2008-02-24 09:39:13 UTC
Well, confirming the bug doesn't help any bit to get it fixed. In fact this is a wontfix. Nobody is working on the code, plans to work on it or even has the slightest idea how to work on it without breaking it even more.

BTW: There's no reason that you can't use KDevelop with the external Qt designer, which is a lot more stable. KDev Designer is almost identical to Qt Designer as its the same code, but extended at a few point and mangled into a KDE KPart. Obviously that wasn't the best idea.
Comment 19 Alexander Dymo 2008-02-25 18:17:18 UTC
> Obviously that wasn't the best idea.
Well, I obviously disagree :) But anyways, I can't fix this bug. I've never been able to reproduce the problem (everything runs fine on both my machines with SuSE 10.3 and MacOSX).
