Version: 1.9.5 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux I noticed that Outlook craps out and displays the raw message/rfc822 mail as plain/text, including headers, when an iCalendar invitation, reply, or Free/busy information has an ORGANIZER or ATTENDEE field with a CN attribute that contains extended chars (like umlauts, etc). This is clearly an Outlook bug, but maybe you'll be interested in knowing that and/or put a workaround. I'll attach two ICS files, one with "Gaël" as ATTENDEE, one with "Gael".
Created attachment 19747 [details] a file that works in Outlook
Created attachment 19748 [details] one that doesn't work These two files demonstrate the problem if mailed to Outlook. They've been generated with Claws Mail, but it suffers from the same problem.
You'll notice that accentued chars in the SUMMARY or DESCRIPTION fields are no problem for Outlook, whereas ORGANIZER and ATTENDEE are. Quite funny that they don't use the same decoding functions for all the fields :)
I think invitations are actually handled by KOrganizer, so I'll reassign this bug report.
That is really annoying. If any participant of an invitation has a non-us-ascii char (umlauts etc.) in his name Outlook gets the crap. I have to tell all my colleagues to insert my name without any umlauts in their addressbook so they can read my invitations/replies.
I guess I have found a solution for this problem. In KMail or Kontact go to Settings->Configure KMail->Composer->Charset or Settings->Configure Kontact->Email->Composer->Charset, respectively. Bring utf-8 to be on top. The complete attachment (incl. ORGANIZER and ATTENDEE) will then be correctly utf-8 encoded.
is this still a problem ?
