Maybe this could help solving:

but not only. I use FA in this mode for years and this is extremely useful.

Could you please add a screenshot, a description or anything like that of the "single pane view" in Forte Agent?
I for example have no idea what you mean.

FA allows user to set the layout as she/he wishes -- see #2 and #3.

However, it is possible to switch (from any layout) to single pane mode. See #4. In such mode FA treats message list as deeper step of group list, and message content as deeper step then message list.
So you can press enter to go deeper, or esc to go back.

Easy to remember, efficient, I use it really long, and it works like a charm.
