Description menschmeier 2007-02-08 10:32:41 UTC
Version: 1.2.3 (using KDE 3.5.5, Gentoo)
Compiler: Target: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.20-gentoo

I am trying to use automatic spell checking in kmail. I have installed ispell and aspell, for both the English and German dictionaries are available.

The spell checking is working really good, but the automatic spell checker marks a lot of words - about 50% - as incorrect. This only happen when I am using the German dictionary. With English I do not have this problem. Doing a manual spell check shows no errors.

English is the default language on my system - maybe this causes the problem.

I have an english system and use a german spellchecker which works fine for me.
What method do you use to select your dictionary?

I opened the composer dialog - Settings - Spellchecker ... then I selected Ispell and the German (new spelling) dictionary, ISO 8859-15 enconding. But I tried aspell too.

That way, it does not work, see bug #79681.
Try selecting the dictionary via View->Dictionary and see if that works better.

Yes this way it is working. Is this behavior intended or is it a bug? At least it is a quite hidden feature.
Shall I close the bug or not?
Comment 5 Thomas McGuire 2007-02-09 12:40:12 UTC
It is not intended, it is a bug (bug #79681).
I'll close this bug report now.
