Description Ferdinand Gassauer 2007-01-14 19:47:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

IMHO it's a big usability issue NOT to show the state of the document in/with the save icon.

so instead of greying out the button please
see my comments at
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140058#c2

Perhaps one might think it's a wish, but it's one of the most important thing to know "fast" if a documents needs saving, so I classified it as bug.

it is especially uncomfortable to work with KDE and OO, where the save button indicates the necessarity to save.

I agree this is a big usability issue.

For example, KWrite alerts you when you delete by mistake a document that is currently open. So I don't see the necessity to have the save button always active as stated in the above mentioned Bug 140058 by David Faure.
I think this should be the solution for all KDE applications.

Another solution could be a greyed BUT clickable button (i have seen this on some programs; PSPad on windows to make an example), in contrast with the greyed BUT NOT clickable button when the document is read-only for the current user.
